Brick Wall Tsuba

The Renga Kabe, or Brick Wall tsuba measures approximately 80mm h x 75mm w and is 3mm thick. Made of steel with a slightly raised rim, solid copper inserts and copper sekigane. This one of a kind tsuba is completely original and is a hand crafted piece of art as well as a fully functional sword fitting.

Each brick shape was cut out of the steel with a piercing saw, one at a time. The spaces were then all filed and prepped for the inserts. Each of the 67 copper bricks were traced and cut out for the corresponding spaces and then filed and adjusted and hammered in for a good fit. Once all the bricks were in place, they were textured and polished for a beautiful aged and worn look. This tsuba has a decent heft from all the copper.

The pair of menuki were done the same way, making a total of 77 copper bricks used. The menuki measure approximately 35mm w x 10mm h x 3mm thick.
