Keiryo Katana
Introducing a brand new addition to the Feilong Swords line up, The Keiryo Katana. At just over 2 pounds, the Keiryo katana is a great sword for performing iai as well as for tameshigiri. Light, fast and agile but with enough strength and blade presence to take on tatami mats with laser precision.
The razor sharp blade is hand forged from differentially hardened T10 steel featuring a beautiful and authentically clayed hamon that stands out brightly at any angle. The shinogi-zukuri with chu kissaki is one of the most successful and most produced sugata (blade geometry) in history, known for it’s sturdiness, effectiveness and beauty. There is a partial bo hi on both sides of the blade, which is another rare feature to find on a production sword. This unique bo hi looks amazing, lightens the weight and also prevents fluids from seeping under the habaki during tameshigiri. The Keiryo features a solid copper habaki with a pair of matching copper seppa, which is a rare and refreshing change from the standard brass. The blade of the Keiryo katana has very little blade niku, reducing bulk and allowing it to pass smoothly through thick mats.
The 10 1/2″ tsuka features genuine white samegawa panels wrapped in black ito and sport a pair of Vajra menuki, cast from an antique set. The unique square sukashi tsuba is made of steel and helps balance the sword perfectly while adding a striking visual component. The simple but elegant fuchi and kashira are also made of steel for superior strength and the kashira comes complete with a set of handmade brass shitodome. The tsuka on the Feilong katana is one of my favorite things about this brand of swords, they are so nicely contoured and profiled and not at all bulky or stick straight. A proper tsuka profile and thickness is crucial for comfort and can help improve your form and alignment.
Another trait that make the Feilong katana brand stand apart from most others is the way the sori (curvature) is carried throughout the length of the blade and into the tsuka which makes cutting much more comfortable and productive. Tori sori is when the peak of the blade’s curve is in the middle and it was the most used and historically longest lasting of the different types of sori, it’s ideal for standing based use. Feilong Swords are designed for maximum functionality and comfort for daily use and this is why they don’t just focus on the blade but the entire sword as a complete, cohesive package.
The saya on the Keiryo features hand-carved ribs along the entire length and is lacquered in gloss black, adding both a visual and textural point of interest. This saya is strong but also super lightweight, making it great for extended wear. The koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri are all handmade in black horn. Saya comes with a black sageo and silk sword bag.
