The through-hardened blade is razor sharp and perfectly tempered for resilience on this no-nonsense workhorse katana. The sword is fast and agile, making it great for Iai at only 2.2 Lbs. but still has enough blade presence to make powerful cuts to light and medium targets.
The classic simple look of the Yasi is complemented by a strong blackened steel mokko tsuba with a raised rim and wave pattern faces, Brown ishime lacquer style saya w/black & brown sageo and It is further accented by the brass habaki, seppa and shitodome.
The Yasi is a perfect sword for the beginning cutter since it’s through-hardened blade can withstand misaligned cuts that could potentially bend a differentially hardened blade(blade w/hamon). This model features a bo-hi along both sides of the blade, which aids in the balance and agility of the blade without sacrificing strength. The bo-hi also provides a loud tachikaze(audible feedback) when swung and has a nice crisp angular termination near the kissaki.
More advanced users might like the light weight to reduce stress on their muscles and joints during practice.
The tsuka of the Yasi features black samegawa panels wrapped in black cotton ito, blackened steel wave theme fuchi & kashira, a pair of nicely detailed catfish menuki and two bamboo mekugi (retaining pins)
